Twelve Steps of Prayer
• Become Silent – Getting quiet and eliminating distractions. It’s beyond what physical distractions may be going on the outside. It includes our inner distractions of unbelief and reality of our situation
• Give adoration – Adoration means worshiping God. Describing God for who He is not for what he is doing or able to do – Psalm 95:1-7
• Make Confession – This takes place when God points out something in your life and says, “Get rid of that,” or “you know you shouldn’t have done that”
• Give Thanks – Giving thanks to God for the forgiveness and the opportunity we have been giving to stand before Him
• Make Supplication – intercede, petition and brood (deep passion) – An emotional overwhelming experience of God’s heart.
• Specify Petitions and Requests – Bringing relevant evidence to one’s case. e.g., praying for healing - the Lord will take away from me all sickness’ (Deut. 7:15)
• Secure the Promises – Laying hold of God’s promises concerning our petition (Luke 13:16)
• Plead the Case – Just like the woman and the judge – an acknowledgement of the fact that God is the only one that can help (Luke 18:6-8)
• Believe – knowing that requests have been granted
• Give thanks – Thanksgiving is like watering the seed sown in prayer. We are not to wait until we see the manifestation of our answers before expressing our gratitude.
• Live in Expectation – Based on instructions received in prayer, …Mind shift
• Practice Active Belief (Matt. 7:7) – This is the work - and make room for it
